CLASS ASSIGNMENTS

I chose to present all my assignments for this course: Final Classcast Project, Digital Media Production, Critical Media Product, and, finally, my participation logs.

FINAL CLASSCAST PROJECT

By Jeniba Anantharaja, Ayah Darouich, Melissa Nerio Vasquez, and myself.

The goal of this assignment was to give students a "creator's" perspective by making us create content through a podcast or video. This project allowed us to deepen, or revisit knowledge that we have learned in this course.
During this semester, we were given the opportunity to familiarize with comic books and graphic novels. My team and I chose to expand on that subject and present the misrepresentations of Indigenous people in our classics including Peter Pan, Asterix, Lucky Luke, and Tintin.

DIGITAL MEDIA PRODUCTION

Individual Assignment

The goal of this assignment was to create a media product to support students' learning. I chose to do an interactive storytelling on the platform Quizziz. This platform allows for children to answer the interactive questions either alone or in teams and to do this activity at their own pace. In my videos, I also offer an analysis of the platform according to Bloom's revised taxonomy.

CRITICAL MEDIA PRODUCT

Individual Assignment

To goal of this assignment was to  make a critical analysis of an event that was presented by the media. For this project, I chose a video which presents the massacre at the Polytechnique of Montreal. I explored the different perspectives and highlighted those who were missing as a part of my critical analysis. My curiosity incited me to dig deeper and I discovered that femicides are frequent for indigenous women although they are rarely mentioned in the news.

PARTICIPATION LOGS

Individual Task

ACTIVITY 1

Using Genially

In this first activity, I chose to present platforms that I found useful and easy to integrate to our classrooms in order to make teaching and learning more interactive. This 'Top 5' includes: Quizziz, Plickers, Kahoot/Jeopardy, Education.com, and finally Youtube. It is important to consider, however, that technology is often ‘hyped’ as being the solution to all problems. It is not; issues must be addressed before we focus on technology and it should be used to support our solution. After all, technology is not our enemy as long as we use it wisely!

Here are the links to get to my ‘Top 5’ platforms!

ACTIVITY 2

Using Storyboard That

The goal of this second activity was to get us to explore the platform 'Storyboard That' while putting forth the key points of our readings about graphic novels in education. The platform allowed us to create our characters and decorate our classroom as we wished. In the first picture, I illustrated how easy it is to use graphic novels for literature projects. In the second picture, I wished to highlight the Scholastic website where students can find graphic novels which suit their interests. The third picture illustrates the advantages of using graphic novels in teaching.

ACTIVITY 3

Using WordCloud

For this third activity, we had the theme of feedback. I chose to create a 'WordCloud' with the most important words we had discussed in our 'Feedback Activity' in class. Some words are bigger than others because I considered them to be more important. I wished to have the word “feedback” in the centre and have all the words around it describe what the word means. You may see that these words are key and we should keep them in mind while giving feedback to peers and students.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

Exactly What You Need!

This course has given me a variety of online tools to make my classroom fun and full of learning. The resources I chose to present are, I believe, the most useful and they are different than the ones I have presented in my participation log Activity 1.

Book Shelf
Collaborating

HARVARD BIAS TEST

First Resource

This first resource is important to me because I believe that, as teachers, we should know what our biases are, whether they are implicit or explicit. This test gives everyone the opportunity to be aware of these biases to allow us to counter them and make our classroom environments more inclusive for all.

PADLET

Second Resource

Padlet is a digital notice board on which it is possible to feature images, links, videos, and documents, all reunited one same "wall". The creator has a possibility to make their wall public or private, so teachers, as well as students can post on the same wall and work collaboratively.
I found this resource to be useful both for teachers' organization and students' participation in interactive activities.

CANVA

Third Resource

Canva is a graphic design platform which allows users to create social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents, and other visual content. This resource is of infinite use. From social media to marketing, from office matters to custom prints and cards designs: this platform has all the templates you could ever need. Students can even work together, on a same project, but from different devices.

MURAL

Forth Resource

This resource offers a variety of templates, such as white boards, which allow teams to work and collaborate together through their visual support. With it, students may access retrospective templates, they may do mind mapping, or even brainstorming; it also offers a variety of tools such as sticky notes, diagrams, and gifs. Murals allows for a variety of fun activities through interactive and simplistic templates.

FLIPGRID

Fifth Resource

Flipgrid is a resource I have used many times before and one I appreciate. The platform allows for students to record a video where they may present a topic or initiate a discussion. It is useful for students because they have access to all videos if they wish to use them as a means to study; whereas teachers may view the videos more than once if they feel the need to, especially while evaluating.

SCHOLASTIC

Sixth Resource

The Scholastic website is a particularly important resource for me because it contains children's books for a variety of ages, and it also includes educational materials in both French and English. The website offers a variety of lessons, both digital and printable, along with fun activities to do all together or as homework.
