PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING

If you had a plant, a sunflower and a cactus: would you give the same amount of sun to all three? Would you give all three the same amount of water? Do all three have the same needs to grow?
A cactus, sunflower, and a blade of grass, all fall under the category of plants; however, they all have different individual needs that allow them to grow. A sunflower requires a greater amount of sun; whereas a cactus requires a lower amount of water. Children have different needs: Some of them require more stimulation through extra work; others need more time to accomplish a task. I believe it is the teacher’s responsibility to understand these needs and identify ways to meet these as much as possible.

PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING

I am studying to become a French Immersion teacher, so my goal is to make students realize how precious language is and how significant it is in relation to our culture. I want them to discover how useful, or even powerful, it is to master languages.

My philosophy of teaching puts forth the idea that education has a goal to fulfil and get students to grow as individual citizens. To do this, it is my responsibility to choose topics that interest students and motivate them to learn.

I also value team work, discussions, and exploration of interests with peers to enrich students’ personal and social experiences. I believe children can learn as much from their peers than they do from their teacher.

“Fit the child — instead of making the child fit the school.”
